Pulchowk Campus

Pulchowk Campus (http://pcampus.edu.np) is the central campus of the Institute of Engineering. It was established in 1972(2029 B.S.) as one of the constituent campus of the institute of Engineering and is situated at the heart of the Lalitpur city at Pulchowk. Initially it was started for the production of trade level manpower to fulfill the nation’s need in the field of Engineering. Pulchowk campus offered diploma level (intermediate level with three years duration) courses in various engineering disciplines since 1973 (2030 B.S.) but diploma level courses are phased out now. Pulchowk campus has been offering bachelor’s degree courses in various engineering disciplines since 1984 (2041 B.S.)

Pulchowk Campus offers bachelors, masters and Ph. D. programs in different areas of engineering. This campus is equipped with necessary laboratories with great strength of faculties and staffs, separate buildings for academic and administrative purposes has become the center of excellence of engineering education in Nepal.

Department of Mechanical Engineering

Workshop and Laboratories

The department has well equipped workshop and a number of laboratories equipped with modern state of the art machines procured through global tender.

The department has Fluid Mechanics, Fluid Machines, Heat Engines, Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Instrumentation and Control, Mechanisms & Machine Dynamics, Metallurgy, Pollution Control, Renewable Energy, Strength of Materials, and Mechanics of Solids laboratories. Most of the equipment is of the latest design with digital display. Some of the equipment are interfaced with PCs. Apart from that, the department has its own setup of twenty-four PCs interconnected through local area network with e-mail and Internet facilities for student.

The laboratories are suitable for teaching, research and consulting works. The Department is now capable of under taking a variety of consultancy projects for industries in Nepal.

In workshop, there are Bench Tools, Engine lathe, Shaper, Milling Machines, Grinding Machines, Sheet Metal works, Electric Arc Welding, Gas Welding for manufacturing different work pieces and models for research.

Research training & Consultancy Unit

An academic institution like The Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering requires research and consulting activities to prevail and excel. The RTCU (Research, Training, and Consultancy Unit) has been formed to help fulfill these objectives of the department.

With the increasing use of electronic equipment and computerized systems in the various areas, the need for a sound technical support has become inevitable. Besides research and consultancy, RTCU also extends its activities in the service sector through technical support and training.

  • Measure emissivity, absorptivity and reflectivity.
  • Comprehensive investigation of the behavior of the centrifugal air-pumping machine.
  • Performance testing of typical heat pump system
  • Air-conditioning and refrigeration system performance, study of automobile air conditioner
  • Engines testing system, testing of the fuel consumption and other engine performance parameters.
  • Solar panel setup
  • Performance testing of solar panel in terms of useful heat output and efficiency.
  • Study and analysis of air pollution.
  • Study and analysis of renewable wind energy.
  • Testing the different metallic characteristics (material testing) of specimen such as compression and tensile test.
  • Comprehensive studies of the behavior of various sensors
  • Surface studies and other related works.
