Kathmandu Engineering College

  1. Introduction

Kathmandu Engineering College (KAT) is a Tribhuvan University (TU) affiliated, private college located at Kalimati, Kathmandu. The college was established in 1998 and is the first ISO: 9001:2008 certified college in Nepal. It is an autonomous college from the perspective of administration, staff and teacher recruitment as well as college development, and is managed by a team of excellent board members.

Kathmandu Engineering College blends academic wisdom with equal fractions of liberty and hard work. Our emphasis has always been on creating an amicable environment, rather than just teaching and studying. Our motive is to instil the practice of listening, observing and speaking in our students.

The objective of KAT is to provide quality education in an excellent teaching and learning environment with a specific emphasis on the diversity of technology. The principal aims of our organization includes building a strong faculty, improving our facilities and ensuring that the vision with which the founders first established the institution is fulfilled.

We, at KAT, are committed to the following objectives:

  • Meeting societal needs is the goal, knowledge is the tool; a learning-centred environment is the force.
  • Maintaining a curriculum that emphasizes problem solving skills, laboratory facilities, communication skills, interdisciplinary teamwork and advanced technical skills in the Bachelor level.
  • Facilities consistent with the very best Engineering practices.
  • Supporting and recognizing innovation, technological advances and excellence in teaching, complete with a focus on rigorous assessment.
  • Promoting an environment focused on scholarship and research on the faculty’s part, and fostering interaction among faculty, students and practicing professionals.
  • Planning for the future in strategic nature.

Our aspiration lies in providing quality education at a reasonable price. We bring out the competent and qualified engineer in every student, and meet high-standard industry demands.

  1. Infrastructure

The KAT compound expands over 30 ropanies—comprising of land leased and owned by the college—in Kalimati, Mulpani, Jay Bageshwori and Sukedhara, and boasts  all the facilities required to ensure a sound academic environment. The accessibility of the college is among its prominent features as it can be reached by public transport at any time. The college also offers transportation facilities of its own, and provides parking space for both two and   four wheelers.

The KAT campus constitutes:

  • Well organized departments
  • Well-equipped Classrooms, Drawing hall and Design Studios as per standards
  • Multimedia facility for lectures, presentations and demonstrations
  • Well-equipped library with one to one semester books and adequate reference books
  • A separate manual section for course and lab manuals
  • Reference section within most of the Departments
  • Specified labs (as per curricular requirements of the affiliated University)
  • Administrative block
  • High speed Wi-Fi Internet zone
  • Proper amenities for students
  • Clean, hygienic canteen for breakfast, lunch and snacks serving various tastes
  • Multipurpose hall and conference hall along with clean strolling paths, lawns and parking facility for two and four wheelers.

Our country has recently had to deal with the loss caused by the massive earthquake of 2015. We shared the collective grief and also had to lose a sizeable portion of our built up spaces. To compensate the loss and to add in new infrastructure, we have recently constructed a new academic block with classrooms and a conference hall with a total area of 4000 sq. ft. Besides, we have also leased a 3 storied twin block to run our updated computer labs with a total area of 7000 sq.ft.

  1. Research Activity

KEC is devoted to conducting research and development projects in order to strengthen the engineering scenario in Nepal, thus making a way for technological breakthrough. The faculty of KEC continue to publish research articles in various national and internal journals and present papers in various conferences and workshops. To strengthen the RESEARH CULTURE of the college, OFFICE OF KEC RESEARCH AND PUBLICATION, OKRP, was established on 1st January 2013. It envisions to explore research-based educational practices through conducting research activities on potential industrial issues, organizing seminars and talks on contemporary issues, arranging for publications of international journals, as well as of other professional materials including the official magazine, newsletters and occasional souvenirs. OKRP aims to foster the culture of research and writing among the KEC students and faculty members, and promote KEC's linkage with international intellectual communities. OKRP conducts an annual seminar with papers of various faculties presented in parallel sessions. The papers presented are documented through publication in the KEC JOURNAL OF SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING.  The research, documentation and publication of KEC has been nurtured through following publications:

KEC JOURNAL OF SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING (KJSE)

KEC Journal of Science and Engineering [KJSE] is a joint publication of the KEC Faculty of Electronics and Communications, Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering. This journal publishes original, empirical and innovative works in basic, functional and support areas of science, technology and engineering disciplines. It is primarily devoted to the extension and further development and dissemination of knowledge in the field of science and engineering for the benefit of academics as well as practicing enterprises based on Research and Development.

KAT NEWSLETTER

KAT publishes a bi-annual newsletter which documents all the major events, activities and achievements of the college. The newsletter concisely and illustratively documents all the college level activities, programs conducted by major departments along with the events and activities conducted and participated by various student bodies.  KAT, through its newsletter, tries to reach out to and communicate with other colleges, departments and institutions.
